Universal Studios Hollywood
Entrance
A sign indicating which movies and tv series are shot today.

Universal Studios, Hollywoord, combines the biggest movie studio in the world with a themepark. It shows you some of the movie magic in the soundstages and the backlot. In the upper and lower lot you'll find some themepark attractions, which are all themed after (Universal Studio) movies.

I went to Universal Studios Hollywood on april 28, 2001. Be sure to read the tripreport here.

You can find the official Universal Studios Hollywood website here.

The rides at Universal Studios Hollywood:

Studio Tour
Fake buildings
More fake buildings

The studio tour takes you through one of the sound stages where a set has been set up especially for the tour and through the backlot where you can see buildings from movies (such as Back to the Future and Psycho) and tv series.

And fake snow
The backlot as seen from the upper lot
The Warner Brothers studios behind the backlot
Cinemagic
Cinemagic is an indoor show in a soundstage where they show you the special effects used in movies. You'll be shown blue screen effects and what a foley artist does (adding the sound effects to a movie). It's like WB Movie World Germany's Movie Magic. This is one of the features that make a movie park like this special. I'm not sure, but this might have been closed (I went to this show in 2001) in 2002, since it's not on their website and park maps anymore.
Backdraft
This show is all about pyrotechnics. It's in a soundstage where a plant has been set up that will go on fire. A real inferno. Be sure not to miss this, since this is a rare attraction.
Back to the Future, the ride
Me, in front of a Delorean

A flightsim ride, where you sit in a sort of giant (8 person) Delorean.

Type: Flightsim ride

Jurassic park the ride
The green area at the front is the scenery from Jurassic Park the ride
Big splash at the end of the ride

Best of the waterrides I've ever been on. Very good Jurassic Park theming and a lot of water.

Type: Waterride
Manufacturer: Vekoma
Year of build: 1996

Think you can stay dry?
Wild wild wild west stunt show
Scene from the show
One of the several very high quality shows at Universal Studios. It's got a lot of shooting, some parts of buildings collapsing and people falling down a well.
Waterworld show
Scene from the show
As you can see in the picture on the left, the theming is very much like the movie. The entire show takes place in the atoll. There's jet skis, a boat and even a plane (crashing into the atoll).
Streets of the world
Shopping / restaurant area themed after international streets
Me, next to the Blues Brothers car, parked along one of the streets.

Some of the streets at Universal Studios Hollywood are modelled after streets in cities around the world.
